PERSONAL PROFILE
Susan was born and raised in the Boston area and lived throughout
the United States and Asia before returning to Boston in 1973 to raise her four children. Having graduated from Vassar College in 1969 where she took art and
philosophy courses, she earned a degree in interior design at Mt. Ida College upon her return to the Boston area. She established her own firm in 1979. Susan,
who now lives in Boston, has a residence in Florida. She works primarily in the New England area and the Southeast. She is an Allied Member of ASID, a member
of the National Historic Trust and in the National Who's Who of Executives and Professionals. Susan Dearborn Interiors has been a member in good standing of
the Better Business Bureau for twelve years.
Susan loves her work today as much as she did 25 years ago. Design choices surround us, from coffee machines to televisions, from
engineered hard wood to cork. Having owned and renovated five residences while raising four children and being actively involved in community and charitable
affairs, she personally knows the stress of having no kitchen for what seemed like two years, inhaling plaster dust for months and having to delay a move-in
because the floors would not dry. Her "life experiences" make her more cognizant of the stress her clients feel during their design project and
her professional expertise enables her to provide them with educated choices.
Susan's work has been published in local and national publications during the last 25 years, including Boston Magazine,
Victorian Homes, The Boston Globe, The Banker and Tradesman, Florida Design: 100 Designers' Favorite Rooms, Spectacular Homes
of New England, New England Design, Palm Beach Illustrated, and Florida Design. She has appeared on the national television show
Interior Motives and hosted her own radio program called The Designing Woman. Her work has appeared in over twenty Show Houses and the recently published book
Decorator Show Houses – Tour 250 Designer Rooms. Susan has also written extensively on design for many books and periodicals including The Boston
Courant, the Beacon Hill Times, and The Boston Home Book.
Outside the office Susan spends as much time as she can with her four grandchildren. She also reads extensively about design related subjects, supports the MSPCA and The Boys and Girls Club. She enjoys
golf, tennis and skiing. |
